Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular dental procedures. Teeth are usually stained from poor oral hygiene, food, drink (red wine, tea coffee) or smoking. Tooth whitening is performed to provide patients with a brighter smile by reducing staining and discoloration. Many cosmetic procedures available today will provide a white, bright smile in a very short time. Unfortunately our personal habits make teeth whitening a temporary procedure. Results usually last for one to three years.

You can choose from various teeth whitening techniques available nowadays including mild acid whitening, abrasive teeth brightening, chemical whitening and laser whitening. Each teeth whitening procedure carries both advantages and disadvantages. Every individual has its own special dental needs and only a cosmetic dentist can recommend an appropriate teeth bleaching procedure. Tooth whitening procedures can be undergone both in office and in home. A newer whitening procedure is the in-store procedure. This way you will be able to achieve teeth whitening at a treatment store or stand.

In-home procedures include one of the easiest to use and cost effective procedures known as the store-bought whitening strips. However full whitening is usually achieved in a week or two depending on how fast the strips are. Another in-home teeth whitening procedure is the custom fitted tray. The price is low and the tooth whitening is gradual and it will probably take a couple of weeks to achieve a full bleaching. Laser whitening is the quickest but also the more expensive of the teeth whitening procedures known today. Make sure you discuss with your cosmetic dentist before deciding on any of these procedures.
